After heavy rain caused the abandonment of matches last week, it was a pleasant sunny afternoon with blue skies for the first meeting of Taplow and Aldershot in the Thames Valley League.
Aldershot won the toss and decided to bat, reaching a total of 237 from their 40 overs, with Faisal Abbas top scoring on 89 and James Ferguson 54 – and helped by some indifferent fielding by the Taplow side.
Taplow’s reply was dominated by a partnership of 139 between Farhan Qureshi and Yasir Khawaja. Batting at 2, Farhan got off to a slow start but then picked up the pace to put together an impressive innings of 62 in his first half century for Taplow.
Captain Yasir Khawaja top scored with 89. In an exciting finish, Taplow just fell short of the target reaching 231, just 7 runs short of victory.
