Thames Valley Cricket League Division 5C – Ballinger Waggoners CC vs Taplow CC 2nd XI
Taplow CC 2nd XI suffered a disappointing 102-run defeat away to Ballinger Waggoners CC in their Week 4 Thames Valley Cricket League Division 5C fixture.
After losing the toss, Taplow were asked to field first and faced a challenging afternoon as Ballinger Waggoners posted a formidable 288 all out from 44.4 overs. Despite taking all ten wickets, Taplow were left to rue a costly extras column, conceding 50 runs in extras, including 30 wides, which significantly boosted the home side’s total.

Suhaib Choudhry responded positively with a well-made 29, while Zain Khan contributed 20 as Taplow attempted to rebuild. The middle order showed resilience, with Mohammed Kamran Asghar producing one of the standout performances of the innings, scoring an excellent 36 from 39 balls and striking six boundaries.
Walid Malik added a useful 27, including a six, and Essam Essam remained unbeaten on 36 from 30 deliveries, playing some attacking strokes late in the innings. However, regular wickets prevented Taplow from forming the substantial partnerships needed to challenge the imposing target.
The Ballinger bowling attack remained disciplined throughout the chase. Iain Harris proved the chief destroyer, returning outstanding figures of 4 for 35 from 8.3 overs, while support came from Billy Ahmed, Faisal Khan, Jagroop Singh and Vijit Mishra, who all claimed wickets at important moments.
Taplow were eventually bowled out for 186 in 35.3 overs, falling 102 runs short of the target.
While there were encouraging batting contributions from Mohammed Kamran Asghar and Essam Essam, the difference between the sides ultimately lay in Ballinger’s ability to convert starts into significant scores and the substantial number of extras conceded by Taplow during the first innings.
The 2nd XI will look to take the positives from individual performances and improve their consistency as they prepare for their next Division 5C fixture.
