Taplow Harvest Scarecrow Festival 2023

Freddie Strawtoff was the club’s entry in the Taplow Harvest Scarecrow Festival, held in the parish church during half-term week.

The festival this year attracted 17 entries from groups such as St. Nicolas Playgroup, St. Nicolas School. 1st Taplow Scouts, Maidenhead Sea Cadets and others.

Thanks to Sian and others for putting Freddie together.

Visitors to the festival were greeted by a scarecrow representing James Rutland who, apart from being organist at the church for fifty years from 1842 to 1892, was also one of the earliest members and players of Taplow Cricket Club in the 1850s.

Rutland was also a keen amateur archaeologist and led the excavation of the Saxon burial mound in the old churchyard at Taplow Court, the contents of which are in the British Museum.
