President’s Day took place on Sunday August 30 when a President’s XI took on the Taplow Sunday team.
After heavy rain the previous day, the square and outfield were still showing the effects, with sawdust much in evidence – but the weather was kind and the match played without interruption.
The Presidents XI batted first. Openers former club President Will Midlane (69) and the current club President Al Hill (54), got the visitors off to a strong start with David Heaton and Drew Somerville both adding 24. The Presidents XI scored 219-9 from 40 overs. Ant Embury took 3-27 for Taplow.
In reply, Taplow reached their target in the 38th over. Ben Daglish top scored with 85, supported by Sunday captain Pete Duckworth (35), Dale Barton (32 not out) and Ant Embury (23). For the Presidents XI, Al Hill took 3-33, but the highlight was perhaps a catch by Colts Chairman Drew Somerville from the bowling of Chairman Andy Bond – they both seemed very pleased!
After the match conversations continued over drinks and a BBQ organised by the Duckworths. There was a welcome return of Sue Barton who kindly prepared teas.
